Project Description

Chanba River Bridge No. 2 – Xi’an, China

Landmark Cable-Stayed Steel Bridge Project

As a landmark building in Xi’an City, this project was awarded the Gold Medal for Steel Structure, recognizing its outstanding engineering quality and structural innovation.

The project includes the construction of a 78-meter-high steel cable tower and a long-span steel box girder bridge with a span of 145 meters, representing a high-level application of steel structures in modern bridge engineering.

Structural Characteristics

The bridge tower is designed as an inclined arch steel structure, with a total height of 78 meters and an inclination angle of 75 degrees, forming a striking architectural silhouette while ensuring excellent structural performance.

The steel bridge superstructure adopts a double-box, double-chamber steel box girder system, with a maximum girder width of 29.8 meters and a total bridge length of 134.95 meters, providing strong load-bearing capacity and structural redundancy.

Construction Highlights

The steel cable tower, with a total weight of 1,650 tons, reaches a maximum cross-sectional size of 6 meters × 3 meters. The tower was assembled horizontally on the ground and then vertically hoisted into position, a complex construction method that required high precision in fabrication, lifting, and alignment.

In terms of total steel consumption, this project ranks No. 1 among similar cable-stayed bridge projects in China, demonstrating its scale, technical complexity, and engineering significance.
