Taiyuan Xindian Street Rotating Steel Box Girder | China

Project Description
XU21 Steel Box Girder Bridge Project
The XU21 steel box girder bridge is located along the east–west main route of Xindian Street, serving as a key urban transportation link. From west to east, the bridge crosses the Fen–Huang connecting line and the Tai–Lan railway line, requiring stringent structural design and construction coordination.
Bridge Configuration
The bridge has a total length of 168 meters, configured as a two-span continuous steel box girder system with spans of 83 meters and 85 meters. The steel box girder features a variable-depth design along the roadway, optimizing both structural performance and material efficiency.
The vertical clearance under the bridge is approximately 3 meters above the railway, imposing strict requirements on dimensional control and construction precision.
Construction Method & Highlights
To minimize disruption to railway operations, the project adopted a rotational erection method. The steel box girders were assembled and fully welded along the north side of the railway, and the entire girder structure was then rotated 41 degrees clockwise into its final position, successfully spanning the railway corridor.
Engineering Scale
The total weight of the rotating structure reached approximately 8,000 tons, representing a large-scale and technically demanding bridge rotation operation. The onsite construction period was completed within 45 days, demonstrating efficient execution and strong project management capability.
